2d Grade
Mrs. Kathleen Hornberger is delighted to have joined the Sacred Heart of Jesus School faculty in September of 2009 as the second grade teacher. She began her teaching career at West Haverstraw Elementary School in the North Rockland School District, teaching grades 1 and 3. She most recently spent four years teaching first grade at St. Thomas of Canterbury School in Cornwall, NY. Prior to that, Mrs. Hornberger taught second grade at St. Joseph School in Spring Valley, NY for seven years. She has also served as the ESL/ reading teacher at Gerald F. Neary Elementary in North Rockland and at St. Augustine School in New City, each for three years, covering grades 1 through 6.
Mrs. Hornberger holds a Masters of Arts degree in Elementary Education/Language Arts from William Paterson University in New Jersey and a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, NY. She is a fully certified Catechetical Instructor with the Archdiocese of New York and holds a permanent NY State teaching certificate for grades N-6. She is a member of National Catholic Educators Association, the Rockland County Reading Council and the New York State Reading Association.
When she is not teaching or doing school work, Mrs. Hornberger may be found on the dance floor or at home doing any number of crossword and Sudoku puzzles. She enjoys being with her husband and two sons cheering on the New York Yankees or walking the family beagle/basset, Homer.
